Stolen Sousaphones (posted 01/05/12)
Goodbye good old sousaphones! You've heard that on January 3rd at 12:30 AM, all four of MCHS's sousaphones were stolen from the band room? No other instruments were taken. The replacement cost of these instruments, plus cases and mouthpieces, will exceed $25,000. For additional images, contact Gretchen Renshaw at zwisslers@mac.com



 

  Rotary Solo Competition (posted 12/14/11)
Attention all band students! The Rotary Club of Manhattan Beach is once again sponsoring a solo competition for MCHS Wind and Percussion students. The competition is open to all MCHS band students and has two divisions, 9th -10th grade and 11th -12th grade. The deadline for signing up is Friday, January 6th, 2012. There is plenty of time to choose a solo piece and practice, practice, practice over winter break! Please pick up an information sheet and application form from Mr. Carlson.

A Midwinter's Night Dream Concert (posted 11/21/11)
Mira Costa High School Bands present "A Midwinter Night's Dream" Holiday Concert on Tuesday December 6, 2011 at 7 PM in the MCHS Auditorium. Performances by Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Please come enjoy the concert with us! Tickets are free for students with ID and children, $5 for everyone else.

Mira Costa Bands is proud to have so many talented musicians in all of our performance ensembles. We would like to encourage our students to submit an application/audition for one of the High School Honor Groups. Both the SCSBOA (So Cal School Band & Orchestra Assoc) and the CBDA (Cal Band Directors' Assoc) are now accepting applications for their 2012 Honor Groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand your performance experience and meet other talented California student musicians. Download the attached application instructions.

Just in time for the holidays, these charms make beautiful gifts. Made in the USA, these charms were created by an artist living in Laguna. Hearts are $20 each. The custom heart color is swirled green & gold, which are Mira Costa HS’s school colors. Chains are also $20 each, 16” and 18”. See attached order form for more information.   Summer School PE Credit (posted 06/14/11)
Sign up your student for one semester of PE credit through the MBAF Summer School program. All marching students must attend summer camp as described in the band packet, but only those registered with MBAF will get the PE Credit on their transcript. This NEW PACKET FOR 2011-2012 provides an overview for the six MCHS band groups as well as Percussion Studio, Colorguard and Winterguard. The calendar will be updated throughout the year and the latest calendar can be found under "Forms and Flyers" with the revision date on top!   Marching Band and PE Credit (posted 05/16/11)
Confused about PE Credit and Marching Band? Here's some help: * Freshman must take a full year of PE during the regular school year. Two years of PE are required for graduation. *PE Credit for Marching Band is given thru the student's enrollment in Concert Band. *Concert Band is a year-long concert ensemble that focusses on concert repertoire and academic goals. No actual work for marching band is done during the period. *Marching Band practice is after-school. Students must participate in Marching Band after school to get the credit for PE. *If your student signs up for credit for summer school marching band thru MB Athletic Foundation, that is worth a semester of PE Credit. If he/she does that this summer and next, that's his/her second year of credit. Obviously the student must attend the mandatory hours over the summer. *Students can either get PE credit or Arts credit for Concert Band if they march. *Students can take Concert Band for all four years. Students do not have to march to be in Concert Band. *In order to march, students must be enrolled in one of the concert ensembles (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, or Jazz I) during the day.
