| Support Mira Costa High School Bands... |
| Some people think that an area as affluent as the South Bay must surely pay enough taxes to fully fund activities like high school music programs. Unfortunately this is not true, and never has been. Our band programs have always needed support from parents, local businesses, and members of the community who understand the value of a music education. You might expect that a band program would have expenses such as buying and maintaining instruments, purchasing, repairing, and cleaning uniforms, and the other paraphernalia we need in order to make music. We have many other costs. Every competition our concert ensembles, jazz band, or drumline attends has entry fees, and our color guard requires costumes and props. We bring in expert drum, marching, and colorguard instructors whose salaries are not completely covered by the district, and they sharpen the students' skills to professional levels. We buy sheet music and cove the cost of food and drink when the students travel to events. None of this is covered by the school’s budget. Your donations make the difference between our program being a marginal operation or the group of varied, accomplished, and award-winning ensembles you have come to expect. We’re asking you to be one of those supporters, and to involve your family, friends, and business in supporting our bands.
